MR2 Lightweight Alternator Bracket Kit
The Racer X Fabrication light weight alternator bracket for the 91-95 Toyota MR2 is a great start to reducing weight and saving space. The OEM alternator bracket takes up a large amount of space on the 3-SGTE engine and weighs a little over 11 lbs. The Racer X light weight alternator bracket kit is CNC machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum and weighs just under 2 lbs fully assembled. The tensioner is made from zinc plated hex steel and uses rod ends to allow adjustment over the full range of worn or new alternator belts. The kit will fit all generations of the 3SGTE and the 5S block, and comes standard in a black anodized finish with the Racer X logo laser etched on the side of the bracket.
*Note: Part number for alternator belt K040325, 33.25" length.
** Gen 4/5 Note: Using the lightweight alternator bracket on the Gen 4 engine requires the use of the OEM Gen 2 crank pulley. This is due to the spacing difference between crank pulleys.

Wonderful alt bracket, install is a breeze and the adjustment screw setup makes tightening the belt very easy. Wonderful product, I'd give it 6 starts if I could.

MR2 lightweight alternator bracket
When the OEM bracket is fitted, alternator removal requires that the OEM bracket must be removed before the alternator can be removed. This is time-consuming and awkward even for a well-practiced operator. The Racer X bracket enables removal of the alternator while the Racer X bracket remains in place. Also, the Racer X bracket is a fraction of the weight of the very heavy OEM bracket. The Racer X bracket makes belt tension very easy to adjust. Here is a word of advice for whoever installs the Racer X bracket. The lower bolt must NOT be overtightened. Correct installation includes a nyloc nut which prevents it from loosening. Overtightening risks breaking the bracket. I recommend this product highly and I would not own an SW20 without the Racer X bracket. I have also fitted the Racer X bracket to a 3SGE BlackTop in a custom installation in my Lotus Europa.
