    Catch Can Kit:

    Why it works

The Racer X Fabrication Catch can for the 2013+ Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT86 was designed to reduce oil in the air stream when exiting the PCV and crankcase. The catch can / air oil separator works by intercepting the air / oil from the PCV or crankcase, and through a series of filters and baffles, keeps the oil in the catch can and allows the air to flow through. As the air and oil droplets enter the catch can they first pass through a micron stainless steel sintered filter to begin the separation process. Oil that does pass this barrier is then forced downward to enter the internal baffle system. We specifically designed the baffles and perforation pattern to assist in allowing the air to flow freely and provide the oil every opportunity to stay in the catch can. Finally once through the internal baffle system, the air will pass through a micron filter before exiting back into the vehicle system. The system has been tested and proven effective after multiple iterations of CFD analysis and road testing.

When it comes time to drain your catch can, we include a stainless steel mini ball valve that allows you to place a canister below the catch can and drain the contents. Knowing when to drain your catch can is simple, the Racer X Fabrication catch can has an easy view sight glass, no more guessing.

I'm using this can for the front vent on my supercharged BRZ. The bracket fits well and is a nice, solid piece. The can itself looks fantastic and everything seems to adequately sealed for the application. The kit's drain valve also is very easy to actuate and there's enough room beneath the can to get a plastic cup or something similar to drain it.

The install instructions could use a little bit of revision - I was able to install everything without any real trouble trouble, but I think it's worth being more clear about the usage of the lock washers on the can/bracket interface. I also found it more or less impossible to install the bracket without first popping the metal line out of its clips and reinstalling them after the bracket was secured. Not a big deal, but adding that to the instructions would definitely make things more clear for less mechanically inclined users.

The can is also on sale right now. For the price it's currently being offered at, this thing is a steal. Mishimoto and Radium don't offer integrated drain valves in their cans and they both cost more. However, Mishi's has fitted hoses, which is visually more appealing, and Radium's offers the ability to place an integrated check valve into one of the fittings, which is nice for a boosted PCV line application. That being said, if you're looking for an option for an NA car or a can for the front vent, this it the best available, without question.

The one thing I didn't like was that hose clamps weren't supplied. RacerX says they aren't necessary but I personally didn't feel comfortable setting it up without them. Not a big deal though, they're available at any hardware store.

RacerX catch can, best design out there!

Well thought out design, location, and mount. 1/4 turn ball valve to drain with, and a sight glass to know when it needs draining. Ran it for a two day track event, got roughly a tablespoon of oil from it. So it's keeping at least some oil vapor out of the intake tract. Overall, very happy with it!
