    Intake Manifold:

The Racer X Fabrication catch can for the 2012+ Chevy Sonic was designed to reduce oil in the air stream when exiting the PCV and crankcase. The catch can / air oil separator works by intercepting the air oil mixture from the PCV or crankcase, and through a series of baffles, retains the oil in the catch can and allows the air to flow through. As the air and oil droplets enter the catch can they are diverted around the spring/inlet tube. This initial diversion creates a swirling effect that is continued through the filtration process. Each baffle utilizes an offset hole pattern which can be rotated or flipped to promote an increased swirling effect which can be seen in the CFD analysis below. We specifically designed the baffles and perforation plate to assist in allowing the air to flow freely and provide the oil every opportunity to stay in the catch can. Finally, once through the internal baffle system, the air will pass through the final perforation disc before exiting back into the vehicle system. The system has been tested and proven effective after multiple iterations of CFD analysis and road testing.

Knowing when to drain your catch can is simple, the Racer X Fabrication catch can has an easy view sight glass, so no more guessing.

    • Airflow CFD

CFD analysis shows airflow entering the catch can and diverting around the outlet tube and spring. The initial diversion creates a swirling effect and is continued through the baffle stages. Each baffle promotes the swirling effect with its offset hole design and allows for additional baffling specific to the enthusiast's needs. Finally, airflow is forced down into the oil collection chamber and then leaves through the outlet tube perforated plate. This final stage of filtration strips away left over oil droplets before exiting the catch can.

    • Now featuring adjustable baffles

Baffles can be added to the stack to increase air oil separation.

    Cons:
    • None so far
Install was very easy. Just don’t drop the mounting screw for the base….. the hoses were high quality and they fit very tight on the fittings. Only time will tell how well it works. Overall so far it looks great and it’s high quality parts

    Pros:
    • Well engineered
    • Looks fantastic
    • Sight glass works well
    • A steal at this price
    Cons:
    • Included intake manifold hose
    • Mounting plate hole spacing
Overall, this catch can is very nice (like all of their other products that I have tried). The catch can itself is beautiful and very well engineered (a guy on YouTube took the mustang one apart which has the same internals to my knowledge). If this was a rating for just the catch can itself, I would give it more than 5 stars.
I did run into a few snafus with the install. The mounting plate holes were not vertically spaced correctly for my car, so I drilled more of the existing plate holes out to fit correctly. I'm not sure if there is manufacturing variance on the chassis holes themselves, but that could be a factor. I also noticed that upon install, my car ran terribly. Turns out, the included hose that goes to the intake manifold was collapsing under idle vacuum. I would advise having some hose on hand that is rated for more PSI and use that instead. The hose running to the intake was perfect. I would also advise wrapping your hard AC line in something durable to protect it, as the mounting plate nearly makes contact with it (this engine bay is cramped so I can't knock them for the placement, especially with how big the stock air box is). Despite those nitpicks, I would definitely buy it again.

    Perfectly made
